Backyard Swamp Remediation with Custom French Drain Installation

A homeowner in Huntington had a low-lying backyard that turned into an absolute swamp for days following every spring rainstorm. Standing water was pooling close to their foundation and killing the lawn, making the yard completely unusable for their kids and dogs.

Sub-surface groundwater saturation requires an engineered drainage solution. Surface grading can guide runoff, but heavy, saturated soil needs an underground pathway to allow water to rapidly escape.

We designed a custom 80-foot French drain system. Our crew excavated a properly sloped trench running through the center of the flooded zone, lined it with heavy-duty non-woven geotextile filter fabric, laid down perforated PVC pipe, and backfilled the trench with clean washed gravel.

We routed the solid pipe to terminate far away at the property line with a heavy-duty pop-up emitter that sits flush with the grass. This custom system intercepts subsurface water as it rises, channeling it rapidly away to keep their backyard completely dry and functional. We replaced the sod, leaving the yard neat and ready to heal.
